EnterpriseROR™ Description
Overview... EnterpriseROR is a real-time, web-enabled investment performance calculation engine
and reporting system specifically designed to seamlessly integrate and operate
behind the secure firewall of an account access website application. It is
a specialized development platform intended for building or augmenting enterprise-level
investment performance reporting applications. It uses production-tested off-the-shelf
and custom built “data connectors” to assimilate security and investor account data
from a firm's recordkeeping system, back-office system-of-records, database, etc.
Because the core engine's inputs and outputs are XML-based, standard web technologies
and programming techniques can be used to transform its raw, processed/calculated
output to highly customized and branded content for a
detailed performance picture of an investor's retirement and non-retirement assets.
Performance Reporting and Investment Personalization
System... The "detailed picture" rendered by EnterpriseROR enables firms to offer engaging
and high quality performance reporting and investment personalization to their investment advisors, brokers, retirement plan participants and retail investors via their account access website and investor
statements. Capable of meeting the budget of even the
most cost-conscience firms, financial institutions and service providers,
dailyVest's EnterpriseROR
provides the competitive edge required in today's marketplace.
High Performance, Highly Scalable... The EnterpriseROR engine is highly scalable and designed to operate in real-time and batch mode. Performance calculations and processing of investor data can be carried out for an
unlimited number of accounts,
thus providing a robust solution for very large service providers. The term
“real-time” applies to EnterpriseROR’s ability to instantaneously respond to user
requests for calculated performance or investment personalization information. In the default "real-time mode," the system is designed to completely service requests
for performance information on-demand.
Thus, the moment a user requests a page containing dailyVest analytics, EnterpriseROR
immediately requests data for that investor’s account, processes, calculates, renders
and returns the results to a web browser. The longest lead-time item in this sequence
of events is usually the delay associated with retrieving account data from the
back-office recordkeeping system. Calculations are virtually instantaneous and overall
response
times of 5 seconds are typical.
Flexible Integration...
Inputs. EnterpriseROR is powered by the following minimum data:
- Transaction history for each holding
- Current unit/share balance for each holding
- Daily price history for each holding or the
firm's universe of investment options
Application Environment. EnterpriseROR’s core engine is
referred to as the "Financial Object
Model" or "FOM," an XML Web Service which can be integrated
within Java and Microsoft ".NET" environments. For easy integration dailyVest
provides a "wrapper class" -- sample Java and ".NET" code containing pre-set FOM properties
needed to generate a variety of useful output pages. Currently, a Windows 2000 or 2003 Server is required to run the FOM.
Outputs. The FOM engine is designed to produce XML output and there are a variety of standard web development techniques to transform this information-only output
into customized HTML web pages or electronic PDF-formatted
statements which reflect a firm's branding
and corporate identity. Personalized
client analytics such as a single
chart or table of personal rates of return can be "inserted" within
existing web pages if necessary.
In short, firms have ultimate control over how personal performance and investment
information is presented to end users via web pages, investor statements and other third-party applications.
Industry Standard Calculation Methodologies... EnterpriseROR adheres to calculation methodologies
recommended by the Investment
Performance Council of the CFA Institute (formerly the Association
for Investment Management and Research or "AIMR"). Specifically, calculation methodologies are
consistent with those specified in the Global Investment Performance Standard, or
"GIPS" standard. In addition to the GIPS-recommended
Time-Weighted Rate of Return methodologies implemented by the FOM (including
Modified-Dietz and Daily Valuation),
the Dollar-Weighted Rate of Return
method (a.k.a. "IRR") may also be set for calculating investment returns.
Reporting and Display Options... As noted, EnterpriseROR generates output in an XML format. Simple and standard programming
languages such as XSLT can be used to control layout, positioning, navigation,
sizing, color and design presentation of the dailyVest analytics according to your
own branding standards. Chart images such as pie, line, bar and scatter charts can
also be generated to match your branding standards. The FOM engine can generate
these personalized information elements with complete design flexibility:
Personal Performance Analytics. Customizable charts and tables can be generated to communicate personal performance
results including
net investment vs. market value,
cumulative returns, annualized
returns, monthly,
quarterly, yearly, year-to-date,
multi-period and custom period returns, geometrically
linked returns and
benchmark comparison charts and
tables. EnterpriseROR even calculates
investment returns for proprietary funds and securities.
Investment Personalization. "Investment Personalization" is a term dailyVest uses to refer to "all other" personalized investment information
not falling under the category of personal performance. The data needed to calculate
personal rate of return information can also be used to analyze and display virtually
any other element of useful investor information. This includes
tables of current holdings,
transaction history lists, standard deviation (also known as Risk) --
a measure of a portfolio's volatility,
charts showing balance history, pie charts showing the breakdown by
investment and asset class,
pie charts depicting historical vs.
current asset allocation, model
portfolios,
security price history charts, and an
account activity table summarizing
beginning value, intermediate transaction types and ending
value. These are just a few.
Drill-Down/Drill-Up. EnterpriseROR offers many alternatives
in the way investment performance and personalization are presented. Results can
be calculated and rendered in real-time at the following levels...
- at an individual holding level (one investment)
- at the plan, account or sub-account level containing many holdings
- at a consolidated portfolio, multi-plan/account level containing many accounts for one participant/investor/family
- at a level containing hundreds or thousands of participant/investor/family portfolios using a new product pioneered by dailyVest known as “planDemographics”
for displaying investment population analysis
Furthermore, users can select any time period for which analysis is desired. Pie charts are even designed
to render breakdown of the portfolio/account/plan by asset class, individual holding or other security attributes
"As-Of" any previous date.
Statement On Demand. Firms now have the option of delivering electronic account statements "on demand."
Statement On Demand is a highly customizable,
branded solution available in PDF or HTML format and is generated from within your
account access website.
Batch Processing for Printed Statements. Firms may want to have the same personal rates of return, performance chart, etc.,
appear within a printed account statement as is shown on the website. For this need,
customers may leverage EnterpriseROR’s production-tested Print Batch processing module.
This allows for high-volume processing, generation and storage of performance (and other)
information needed for later inclusion within printed reports or account statements
external to the host system.
OFX Download to Quicken and Money. Investors today expect more options for managing their own investments such as with
third-party financial management software like Inuit's "Quicken" and "Microsoft
Money." EnterpriseROR leverages the same data needed to perform personal rate of
return calculations for generating financial information conforming to the Open
Financial Exchange ("OFX") standard used by Quicken, Money and thousands of other financial institutions. dailyVest
has successfully deployed OFX solutions for several financial
institutions.
Robust Administrator Tools... EnterpriseROR comes with an extensive suite of administrative tools for verifying
calculations, the adequacy and correctness of raw data supplied to the FOM engine, statistics about usage
and cache hits, error logs indicating faults such as a missing price or transaction, inaccurate share/unit balance information, and the ability to set a "trace" on
a specific investor ID (such as SSN) for dumping raw data needed for analysis by
dailyVest or the firm.
